I feel like I need protection from NOM…and so does the guy in the video whose knowledge of the English language only extends to his one line.
Here’s my thing, though. I want someone to sit me down, look me in the eye and give me a rational explanation about how gay marriage changes a straight person’s life. And by rational, it needs to not include the words “Bible,” “Jesus,” or “eternal damnation.” It must explain to me how what is happening in the house next door affects the relationship you have with your spouse and/or children. It must explain to me how anything but your sense of superiority and righteousness over unmarried childless people is affected. And it must explain why who licks, sucks or sticks what where in someone else’s bed affects you.
People whine about how their children are being morally confused by hearing that gay marriage is right. I understand that children learn things in school, like the f-word, that parents might not have wanted them taught, but isn’t it the parents’ responsibility to ensure that their kids learn a sense of morality? Are they afraid that their kids will decide that their parents are actually in the wrong to be bigoted against anyone and turn on them? Or do they think that if these kids learn that gay people exist, they’ll want to grow up to be them, like it’s a career choice? “Oh, darling, I know you’d like to be a homo when you grow up, but there’s so much more money in being a doctor.”

Fanaticism needst not logic. As a matter of fact, it thrives on the absence of logic. The thing is that there are people out there who see commercials like that and are so soft-in-the-brain that they actually think gay marriage will somehow affect them. People like us cannot see the connection, but then again, we’re smart.
